Strategies for Meeting All Students' Needs

As an educator, it is very important that we are meeting all of our students' individual needs. In order to do this we need to implement differentiating instruction into our curriculum and lessons. By doing this we are allowing our students to be able to be more engaged, have a better understanding of the material and topic at hand and become more successful in their educational career. 

When researching on how to be able to do this, I came across this article "Strategies for Meeting All Students' Needs" that explains different strategies that educators and teachers can use to help meet the needs of their students.

  • Collaboration with colleagues- allows for teachers to use each other a support system and bounce ideas off of one another on how they are able to serve diverse learners. 
  • Cultivate consistency- supports students who need basic routines and structure. In order to do this, educators and teachers can simply post a daily objective, homework, bellringer, etc. on the board. 
  • Develop a student-centered mindset- give students an equal chance to succeed by looking at what all of your students need and offering different choices. 
  • Set aside time to focus on study skills and extra support- use this time to support your students by reviewing material, topics and concepts to help the student(s) gain a better understanding. 
  • Use multiple forms of assessments- there are many different learning styles and there are many different ways that students are able to show that they have mastered a skill, topic or material. Choose other assessments, other than tests or quizzes, to help support diverse needs. 
  • Partner with families- be sure to always communicate with the student's family. By do this, it will allow for extra support outside of the classroom. 
All of these strategies can be used to help support the diverse needs of our students. Since we are only one person, utilizing these strategies and being consistent with them will allow you to become an effective teacher as well as lead to more student success.

    Sounds great! One thing that was mentioned in the article I chose was involving the community too -- sort of a "takes a village to raise a child" philosophy. :)

10 Modern Ways to Use Technology in ESL Instruction When researching how to implement technology within ESL student learning, I came across this article called 10 Modern Ways to Use Technology in ESL Instruction . In this article, it discusses different strategies that teachers can use to help our english language learners gain a better understanding of what is being taught. Film and Video- to help support and strengthen vocabulary and comprehension. Apps- using apps that teach ESL students english is a great way to for them to practice their grammar, speech and vocabulary. Digital Field Trips- allows the students to gain a better understanding through visuals. Podcasts- allows students to improve their comprehension through listening.
