Strategies for Meeting All Students' Needs

Strategies for Meeting All Students' Needs As an educator, it is very important that we are meeting all of our students' individual needs. In order to do this we need to implement differentiating instruction into our curriculum and lessons. By doing this we are allowing our students to be able to be more engaged, have a better understanding of the material and topic at hand and become more successful in their educational career.  When researching on how to be able to do this, I came across this article " Strategies for Meeting All Students' Needs " that explains different strategies that educators and teachers can use to help meet the needs of their students. Collaboration with colleagues- allows for teachers to use each other a support system and bounce ideas off of one another on how they are able to serve diverse learners.  Cultivate consistency- supports students who need basic routines and structure. In order to do this, educators and teachers c...

CAST UDL

I chose the Rocks and Their Properties: Day 1 lesson off of the CAST UDL Lesson Builder website to observe and make connections as to how they are implementing UDL.  Within this lesson, the teacher addresses different learning styles that their students may use. For instance, there are many visuals that are displayed, hands-on-activity, verbal discussion and presentation on the material. This lesson also provides the opportunity for different motivational options to ensure that all students are engaged in the topic. Students work in small groups throughout this lesson which allows the students to collaborate with other classmates to gain a deeper meaning of the material. By implementing all of these strategies into this lesson, students are able to gain a better understanding of the topic. Lesson Link

UDL

UDL (Universal Design for Learning) is an approach that minimizes barriers and maximizes learning for ALL students. Teachers are creating curriculum's that are not bias towards different cultures. When creating the curriculum it is important to use a design that incorporates every student and their learning needs and styles (i.e. visuals, group work, hands-on-activities, etc.) By using UDL framework we are able to create goals and eliminate barriers and allows educators to build a strong supportive curriculum.

Diversity in Education Policy

When doing research regarding policies regarding diversity in education, I ran across a policy that has been set in place for school districts in the state of Ohio. This policy was set in place to help foster a positive environment for students of all gender and ethnicity and was in effect as of 2011. It was created to face the challenges that districts have been facing regarding diversity. In Ohio’s policy for diversity, it lists the different ways that the district and the administrators are supposed to proactively address the issue such as developing a statement on diversity. By having this statement in place, Ohio residents can gain a better understanding of the policy set in place in their schools regarding diversity. It is to not only provide knowledge to residents but to also seek support from them as well.  Another way districts proactively tackle this issue is by taking reasonable action to help improve diversity and decrease the racial isolation that might be occurring...
